I had to do a 30 minute presentation with my group in the beginning of November. The project was assigned the first week of classes so we had like two months to do it. Around the beginning/middle of October, I sent out an e-mail to all the members of my group and didn't get a response until the end of October and only ONE person responded. There were four members.. I didn't meet the other two girls until literally the minute before our presentation. Basically, it didn't turn out so great.. but luckily, the professor had only good things to say about my portion of the presentation (which was a surprise cause I SUCK at public speaking.)
So now.. I have to write a PAPER with these people? I sent out an e-mail to everyone as soon as I found out we had to write it and again, the same one girl responded.. but that was on Wednesday.. and now it's Monday and still no response (we have until Dec. 9th). WHY ME?!
Would it be wrong to ask the professor if I can write the paper myself? I don't want these people to bring down my grade... and NO I'm not talking smack about the group members... I'm just frustrated with school and this cold. Blah..?
I just realized how annoying/whiny I sound (or... seem?).. OH WELL

I chalk it up to being part of the business curriculum. Deadbeat teammates, that is. This way, it doesn't seem so bad, and I'll be ready when I start working.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are frustrated, it makes for a great post...just saying. So keep 'em coming. The last time I had a group presentation, I came off as the slacker because I seriously lost my voice the day before we had to give the presentation. It was terrible and they were all looking at me like I was making it up. Poor me!
ReplyDeletei know what you mean about the group work problems. due to email group work has become people emailing each other there parts and then someone putting it all together. i don't remember the last time that i actually meet with a group for more than 5 minutes to talk about our presentation. there have also been times that i haven't met my group members until the day of the presentation. thanks to email and everything there isn't as much of a need to physically meet up anymore. i don't know if this is a good or bad thing but it's the truth.
ReplyDeleteKG, you can't control and be responsible for every individual in your group...I know it can be very frustrating sometimes...I had a case in the early days in my economics class. This guy decides to sip a few at Fitzgerald's before our presentation, guess what?...this dude comes in drunk, all giggly and s**t...I wanted to organize an early "trip to the dentist" for him that day...Had to present my and his part all by myslef...
ReplyDeleteThat souonds frustrating!Perhaps inform the prof of the situation and then let him/her know that you will try to handle it by sending the members of your team an email letting them know how this is urgent and how you feel this needs to be addressed immediately! Maybe ask for phone numbers instead, that usually gets a faster response (in my experience). GOOD LUCK!
ReplyDeleteI KNOW BUT YOU CANT TAKE ACCOUNT FOR EVERYONE. BUT I GUESS ITS WITH EVERY GROUP BECAUSE IM IN A GRUOP THAT HAVENT MEET ONCE AND NOTHING HAS BEEEN DONE
ReplyDeleteI feel u see same story here. ..girl will not answer to e-mails text or phone call ... so whats' up with that.. Day to present the project she is running late comes up with simple graph instead of a T-test ....on top of that she talk s.... and at the end the professor looks at us like what the ..... are you showing me... OH MY GOD i hate people that are so ignorant
ReplyDeletehow cruel and stupid can people get..If you dont care about your education let other people that are willing to complete school after long hours of work or 9 years in school but willing to finish a dream.. Allow us to accomplish our dream and let ur life be a ......... because is not fair I just had to let it out
I'm sorry to hear your having such problems with your group. I always expect things like that when I'm working in a group thats why I make sure to have my work done so when the shit hits the fan I'm covered.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your situation. What a irresponsible people they are.....I also in similar situation now, but a little bit better than you. Anyway, good luck
ReplyDeleteDid you resolve this? I feel like I'm getting a better understanding of your life by reading your blogs, no joke. Good luck with everything and if all else fails, seriously, speak with your professor. You don't need to let them bring you down, it's totes not worth it.
ReplyDeleteDid I tell you? We have to do a five-minute, Spanish group presentation in eight days (like Chanukah haha)! I THINK I have a good group, but I might have a post like yours in a few days lol.
